WESTERN ONTARIO - Farmer fined over $30,000 for spreading manure on frozen ground

BRANCHTON - A farm owner and his son were fined $33,125 for spreading manure on frozen ground that got into a neighbour’s drinking water. Philip Watson, the owner of Philmar Holsteins at Branchton, southeast of Cambridge, was fined $31,250. His son Thomas was fined $1,875. The Watsons applied liquid manure to a field while the ground was still frozen, which is illegal in Ontario, as is applying manure to land covered with snow....

CCA Applauds Expansion of Beef Access to China

Calgary, AB - Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met today in Ottawa with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and announced that China will begin to allow bone-in Canadian beef from cattle under 30 months of age (UTM) effective today. The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) is pleased that this important trading partner has recognized the rigour of Canada’s bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) control measures and has taken this step to move forward in normalizing import conditions for Canadian beef....
